We love simple quick knits, especially ones that become every day staples and make great gifts.
The Windsor Lite hat is a simple hat pattern, great for beginners and advanced knitters alike. This classic hat features a 2 row repeat, making it an excellent travel buddy or tv knit.
Yarn: ~ 200 yards of Worsted weight (I used Mountain Meadow Wool Laramie)
Size: 16" (18", 20") / 40.5 (46, 51) cm / Depth: 9.5” / 24 cm
Needles:
US 5 / 3.75 mm 16” circular needles or dpnsNotions: scissors, darning needle, stitch marker
Gauge: 20 sts x 30 rounds = 4” broken rib stitch on larger needles In the round or flat
Round / Row 1: K all
Round / Row 2: *k1, p1 ; repeat * to end
Abbreviations:
K - Knit
K2tog - Knit 2 stitches together
Using smaller needles, and the German Twisted Cast On method, CO 84, (96, 108) sts. Join to knit in the round being careful not to twist stitches. PM to mark BOR.
Brim:
Round 1: *k1, p1 ; repeat * to end of round
Repeat k1,p1 sequence for 2” / 5cm or approximately 12 rounds total.
Body:
Switch to larger needles
Round 1: Knit all
Round 2: *k1, p1 ; repeat * to end of round
Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until piece measures approximately 8.5” / 21.5 cm from CO edge, or approximately 1” / 2.5 cm shorter than desired length.
Crown:
Round 1: K allRound 2: *k1, k2tog ; repeat * to end of round (56 (64, 72) sts)
Round 4: *k2tog ; repeat * to end of round (28 (32, 36) sts
Round 6: *k2tog ; repeat * to end of round (14 (16, 18) sts
Break yarn, leaving a 12” long tail to close hat. Thread yarn into darning needle, and pull through remaining loops at crown. Close hole by pulling on thread. Weave in ends and block as desired.
