
The Raven Beanie, another great hat for traveling and gift knitting. This hat travels light only needing 1 skein of heavy dk or worsted weight yarn, and is mindless reading only 2 rounds to memorize.

US4 / 3.5 mm 16” circular needles
US6 / 4 mm 16” circular needles
US6 / 4 mm 32” circular needles or dpns for crown shaping
Notions: scissors, darning needle, stitch marker
Gauge: 10 sts x 16 rows = 2” in stockinette stitch on larger needles
Abbreviations:
P - Purl
PM - Place marker
Rnd(s) - Round(s)
SSK - Slip slip knit ; 1 st decreased
With smaller needles, using the German Twisted Cast-on, CO 88 (100, 112) . PM, and join to knit in the round, being careful not to twist stitches.
Brim:
Ribbing: *k1, p1. Rep from * to end of round
Repeat previous round until brim measures 1.5” / 4cm from CO edge (or about 10 rounds)
Body:
With larger needles
Round 1: *k3, p1 ; repeat from * to end of round
Round 2: *p1, k1, p2; repeat from * to end of round
Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until hat measures appx 7.5 (8, 8.5)" / 19 (20.5, 21.5) cm from cast on edge or until the body measures 1" / 2.5 cm less than desired length
Crown Shaping:
Round 2-3: *k1, p1 ; repeat * to end of round
Break yarn, leaving a 12” long tail to close hat. Thread yarn into darning needle, and pull through remaining loops at crown. Close hole by pulling on thread. Weave in ends and block as desired.
