The Color Block Hat is a great daily, perfect for keeping the noggin’ warm and gift knitting! Using simple knits and purls, this one is sure to fly off your needles, leaving you wanting to cast on another in a different color combo.
Size: 1 (2, 3)
Finished measurements:1- Child (15” / 38 cm circumference)
2 - Adult Small (17” / 43 cm circumference)
Yarn: appx 80-120 yds / 73-110 m each in two contrasting colors of dk weight yarn. These will be noted as color A & color B
Gauge: 12 sts x 12 rows = 2” on larger needles using *k2, p1

K - Knit
K2tog - Knit 2 stitches together
rnd(s) - Round(s)
Directions:
Brim:
With smaller needles and Color A, using the German Twisted Cast-on, CO 96 (108, 120) . Pm, and join to knit in the round, being careful not to twist stitches.
Ribbing: *k2, p1. Rep * to end of round
Repeat previous round until brim measures 1.5” / 4 cm from CO edge (or about 10 rounds)
Body:
Change to larger needles and continue with Color A
Round 1: *k2, p1 ; repeat * to end of round
Repeat round 1 until hat measures approximately 2.75 (3, 3.25)" / 7 (7.5, 8.5) cm from cast on edge or about 1/3 of your desired finished height.
Break Color A and attach Color B
*Knit all for one round
Continue with Round 1 until hat measures approximately 7.75 (8.25, 8.75)" / 19.5 (21, 22.5) cm from cast on edge, or roughly 1" / 2.5 cm less than desired height.
Crown Shaping:
Round 1: *k1, ssk ; repeat to end of roundRound 2: knit all
Round 3: k2tog, *ssk, k2tog; repeat until 2 stitches remain. ssk
Round 5: *ssk ; repeat * to end of round
Break yarn leaving a 12” / 30.5 cm tail. Using darning needle, pick up all remaining stitches, remove needle and cinch closed. Weave the tail through the stitches one last time, then tuck through to the wrong side. Weave in all remaining ends.
Block as desired.
